Summer Update - 01 Jul 2021

Hi everyone,

We hope you are having a lovely summer so far and enjoying a well-earned rest! As promised in Student Group Training, here is the first big Student Opportunities update. Check out below to see the headlines:

Key Dates

Below is a timeline of all the key dates you need to be aware of over the summer:

Key Processes & Information

  • Constitutions: You will find your constitutions on your Google Drive in the ‘Shared With Me’ section. Make sure to have a look over the summer and see if any updates are needed. All you need to do is make the amendments and highlight them so it’s clear what has changed, make sure your committee agrees and then email to get the changes approved.

  • Accessing the Google Drive: Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers would’ve been emailed today with their new passwords to the Google Drive. If any login challenges come up try connecting to the University VPN and if that doesn’t work, send us a ticket on Freshdesk and we’ll get it sorted for you.
  • Accessing Freshdesk: Next week you will receive an email from that contains an activation link to set up your account. Make sure to check your spam folder if you can’t find it! Click on the link and follow the steps. Remember you can still access the solution articles without an account, and email us at if you’re having any trouble logging in.

  • Budget Forms & Funding: Your budget form will appear on your Google Drive on the 15 July and you will need to complete it by the 15 August. Use the budget form to let us know any upcoming income and expenditure for the year, as well as set your membership prices. The form will also show how much funding you will receive from the Students’ Union this summer. Check out these Freshdesk articles for more information on how to fill out your budget form and Student Group Funding.

  • General Risk Assessments: You will find your general risk assessments on your Google Drive in the ‘Shared With Me’ section. Have a look through and see if any amendments are needed based on your upcoming plans or changing government guidelines. Remember any activity not included on your General Risk Assessment will need a separate event proposal and risk assessment. Please update your risk assessments by 15 August and then let us know once you have done so as it will need to be approved by a member of the Student Opportunities team. Check out more information here.

If you have any questions at any point, then please reach out to us! You can send a ticket on Freshdesk, email us at, or sign up to a meeting with us here. The Student Opportunities team are here to help!

Best wishes,

Student Opportunities
